FROM: @CMDR | TO: @ALL

ATTN: ALL PERSONEL.

We have had recent recruits that have joined our fight. I understand you have been briefed and given training for this mission and our stay in Aranean society. As for the rest: I am your Commanding Officer, Grothia, previously of the Regency. Unfortunately, at present, I am often tied up in diplomacy meetings with the high court. But you can reach me via your BCE, or at certain times during the day in COST's supplied quarters.

Field Officer Young, who is at present wearing of her human appearance, is also present. She can be found at similar through similar means.

If you have any concerns, you may bring them to either of us.

As for your mission here. Our main concern is to secure COST's supply of Ymir, this substance is responsible for powering all forms of time travel in the Galaxy and the dimension shifting required to do so. It is the bones of the fallen God, Ymir and it seems mankind was not made to touch their Gods. Aranean's are a species genetically made to mine such a thing and no human is capable of it. That is why they are absolutely crucial and our alliance with them over the Regency, at all costs, must be assured.

At present, High Queen Thsch is our best bet of this. There is no denying the woman is cruel. A slight is enough to make her snap your limbs, one by one. But the natural Jhashcn bias to those who would eat those who suppress inclines her to us, and we need to foster that fondness.

Her daughter, on the other hand, wishes to overthrow her mother, as is their way. So far in my dealings with her, she has been far more moderate. She favours neither heavy slavery nor absolute forms of punishment. She even has an open, qualitative relationship with her brother as I have observed them. They frequently whisper together at the meetings I have attended. That may be appealing, but she will have no bar with us, as we cannot at present assure what she needs to take the throne.

That is as much as my limited position has allowed me to learn. Sadly neither Officer Young or I can move too freely due to our high profile scrutiny. Remember: if it moves, it is a spy, here. There is nothing you say, or do, that is not being reported to someone unless it is done through the BCE.

As such: COST operatives, I require a debrief of your actions, so they we may assist one another. If you have an idea, a skill, speak up, so that we can use it. This is not a usual type of battle, more's the pity, and awareness of movements is needed more than ever.

With this bunch? Not exactly shocked.

Don't have much in the way to say about COST's recruiting practices aside from expressing disappointment. Even with the training before coming here, there's still some recruits who don't belong on the field, they're basically civilians.

The old won't hold the young back forever. Chch is smart, it's likely she'll get one over on her mother sooner or later. Personally I'd rather let them handle their own affairs. We're here for a treaty, not to solve their power issues.

Coming from a country that's meddled in political affairs not their own, it ends poorly.

[While it could be lipservice, it heartens Hux to know that someone else is disappointed in the way COST recruits; perhaps he underestimated some of the people here.]

I agree. And civilians have no place here; however many of those same civilians are stubborn and would never be willing to admit such a thing--it is up to COST command to remove them, which I am quite sure they would never do.

By working for one side of the treaty, we are actively picking a side in their power issue.

Try to spin it however you wish, as one side favors us, and the other does not--we are meddling in political affairs to suit ourselves.

They're either stubborn or trying to make the best of their lot in life. Which considering that COST hasn't grounded them or sent them packing, is really all they can do at this point.

There's diplomacy and there's meddling. I know you're trying to get at that they're essentially the same thing but with a society like this, it's really not. We deal with what we came here for, they can deal with the rest of their power struggles.

While I'd like to ensure some sort of stability so we don't keep having to come back when power shifts, I'm fairly sure that's impossible. The most we can do is make sure that treaty wording is water tight.

You realize eventually the energy we are bargaining for will run out.

Other sources will have to be found.

While I would concede in other situations there are nuances to be found, in this, there aren't. Both we and Regency are scavengers, picking at whatever the Aranean choose to provide us.

Even if we make a treaty with the Queen she could easily change our mind, and give how much we need this, she could ignore any treaty.

We are at the weakest position. There is no denying that.

Yeah but how long's that gonna take? Are we even gonna be alive to see that?

The way I see it, we secure the source we know and continue looking for another while we've got our supply.

I can't agree. We're scavengers; more like beggars. The Regency has sway, numbers, influence.

She could ignore any treaty, but that doesn't mean we overthrow her because of possibility. Putting Chch on the throne isn't any more of a guarantee that we get what we came for.
