With our mission in Paris just about at its limit, I have a few questions to posit to you all. This isn't quite my thing, and I don't mean to sound high and mighty, but you have all piqued my interest.
Firstly, the ideas of liberty and self-government were, indeed, revolutionary at this point in time. They're run of the mill for some, and to others they are representative of an ideal rarely achieved in their own world. I speak this of course to all of us, members of this response team. Do you agree with this revolution? Which is more right, the government of a king, or of a nation's people?
Second, to those whose plans have been a part of the mission, what went through your minds during the planning process? Or during its execution. [ He does not...see the irony behind this phrasing. ] Having failed the mission directives, do you feel in part responsible for whatever consequences arise? I say this both to those that were successful, and those that were not.
And lastly, given the state of affairs, this hardly matters much. It's more of a personal question. Do you think you are free?

I agree. It's something often taken for granted. People are content to take safety over liberty, for the most part. I don't think it would be right to blame them. If a few have to have it hard for them to play it safe, then so be it. That is what we are here for, after all.
That aside, I want to make it clear that I don't hold your failure against you. I don't think it can even be called a failure, truly. I know not of your plan, only that in the end the vote didn't go the way we wanted. Though my team succeeded, I think it's purely chance. People are fickle that way.

Definitely no blame from me. The best life isn’t always the path of least resistance just as it won’t always be the difficult path either. It’s different for everyone. But it takes understanding it enough to really decide what really matters to you, doesn’t it? Even if sometimes it’s better not to know.
Some aren’t so fickle, as was the case with the vote we attempted to nullify. To say the least, another took his place. I’d thought his importance would merit necessity of his presence for the vote, but a proxy had been prearranged.

Even this, I hardly had a plan for what was to come. I simply went at it on instinct and the results, though to our favor, simply weren't worth the means necessary.
It was violent. I thought I could get away without that now. I guess the both of us were fell for a ruse in some fashion.

I feel you on that, about violence. But, y’know, I don’t think you can blame yourself if that’s the way things turn out sometimes. People are still animals, when you get down to brass tacks. Some parts of instinct we will never be able to fully contain.
Think about it. What do you want to do when you’re angry? Move around? Huff a bit and swing your arms? It’s inherent. But that alone doesn’t make violence heinous. It’s the intent that seals the score.

I just hope that we can get out of Paris soon. I've eaten more baguettes than anyone should have to in their life.

Though we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. I think baguettes are pretty delicious. Not that food can’t be more amazing, especially since I know it all gets better in the future, but there’s just something about bread. Even when framing a burger, it just makes sense.

Bread's timeless, but it gets stale after a while. [ He did not acknowledge his own pun. ] Seafood disturbs me on an intrinsic level. It's all far too alien for my liking. Fish as well. I suppose it comes with having grown up never knowing what the ocean was.

Stale, sure, but if you eat it fresh? Pretty damn near perfect with anything. Burgers don’t usually have seafood though. Just beef and veggies, sometimes cheese. Whenever we get some proper down time, let me whip up one for you. Add some fries and a Coca-Cola, and you get a classic that the country I’m from hasn’t gotten over in decades, though I dunno where I’d get a Coke with the whole time displacement thing.

France isn’t so bad though. A couple hundred years from now, at least. Can’t wait for a proper shower, I can tell you that.

Yeah, I’m more ready for a place to return to, to be honest. Haven’t exactly made a permanent residence around here or anything. But having somewhere to go back to? After a long mission? Definitely gratifying.
