With our mission in Paris just about at its limit, I have a few questions to posit to you all. This isn't quite my thing, and I don't mean to sound high and mighty, but you have all piqued my interest.

Firstly, the ideas of liberty and self-government were, indeed, revolutionary at this point in time. They're run of the mill for some, and to others they are representative of an ideal rarely achieved in their own world. I speak this of course to all of us, members of this response team. Do you agree with this revolution? Which is more right, the government of a king, or of a nation's people?

Second, to those whose plans have been a part of the mission, what went through your minds during the planning process? Or during its execution. [ He does not...see the irony behind this phrasing. ] Having failed the mission directives, do you feel in part responsible for whatever consequences arise? I say this both to those that were successful, and those that were not.

And lastly, given the state of affairs, this hardly matters much. It's more of a personal question. Do you think you are free?

I think watching and waiting is the safest bet after all this. Everyone needs some time to recuperate. Hopefully HQ has us taking a break after the mess we've made here. Maybe it'll boost morale some. Enough to make sure the next mission succeeds.

Yes, we do. Some members of the unit seem to have bottomless optimism and energy but most of us aren't so lucky.

In truth, if we don't get at least a few weeks break after this COST cannot expect anything good from me for the next mission at all. My body has little left to give.

I understand how you feel. My sympathy goes out to you. Keeping up morale is incredibly important; they would be fools to disregard leave. No one can fight forever.

It'll be over soon. What do you say we meet face to face when we regroup?

But there's always a fool who will try, isn't there?Though a part of me can't help but admire the spirit of such people.

[Ishida Mitsunari, his other dear friend, is just like that... fighting when it's pointless, fighting against doom, never ever giving up. It's going to get him, and Yoshitsugu, killed, yet somehow Yoshitsugu feels no regret about that. Happy, even. Who's the bigger fool?]

I'm not against it. Our unit needs more cohesion.

Cohesion's important when the stakes are this high. Without it, plans don't work, and people aren't into their jobs. It makes for a tough time of things. I look forward to meeting you. My name's Kruger.

Gyoubu. I figure I won't be able to pronounce that perfectly, but I will try. You are from the East, I assume?

I'm not bothered if you get it wrong. And yes, I am. Japan specifically.

Japan is not of my own world, but the same can be said for France. I figure the parallels exist regardless. It will be interesting to discuss the differences.

I'm not convinced the Japan in this world is the same as mine either, as it happens.

Getting information to compare the worlds of most in the unit would be, yes, interesting, but useful too.

We'll just have to wait and see. Though the mere fact that they share a name is leagues beyond what I can say. What immediately strikes you as different from what you know?

France, and the sandy expanses we had to fight in beforehand, have a different kind of flow to one I am familiar with

[It might sound wishy-washy to some, but to him, it's not.]

I do not know enough about the situation we are in to know for sure either way but currently this is what I believe.

We'll all have a better bearing on things once we head to base. It always serves to clear ones head, returning to HQ.
