Has anyone else ended up finding strange...sets of plastic toys in their quarters today? [The tone here is mildly amused, but there is an undercurrent of concern.]

The appearance in and of itself doesn't alarm me, but the prognostications that have been issuing forth have been...singular in experience, given their shape.

[There is a moment's pause, before another voice, much deeper and more ominious chimes in with:]

Tonight you will walk into a wall in front of a crowd.

[Chiron clears his voice, then continues.]

As I said. Singular in experience. Let me know if you've received anything similar, I'm curious as to any greater purpose to them.

I'm fairly sure that manipulating prophecy is an invitation to make matters worse, you know.

That sort of thing is meaningless to me, anyway. I decide my own fate. [ And yet her whole life revolves around the sword in the stone, and its prophecy. ]

That may be so, but since you're arguing what's the worst that could happen?

[ Of course that's the part she remembers... striking a bit too close to home there, Chiron. She snorts. ]

If that's supposed to be a warning, it's a pretty bad one.

The important part is the details. Oedipus' father was told his son would kill him, so to avoid that fate, Oedipus was eventually exposed on a mountaintop to die. Obviously, he didn't, and he ended up killing his father on road to Thebes and killed him by accident instead.

Then he should have killed the child. His mistake was leaving it on the mountaintop to start with. That was cowardice, not mercy.

If a prophecy tells me something good, I'll accept it. If it tells me something bad, I'll fight it. If I don't care, I'll ignore it. That's just how it is.

One can debate what should have been done until the end of time. My point was that fighting prophecy has a very bad way of coming back to haunt a person.

That is an attitude that doesn't surprise me. I think most would adopt the same.

Don't compare me to others. Anyway, there's only ever been one prophecy that matters.

[ Her mother predicted she would destroy the kingdom — and she did. But that was no prophecy, it was her own choice. The sword of selection is the only one she believes in. ]

At least this one is funny. If it does come true, you'll just have a sore head for a while. [ And Mordred will laugh. ]

[Chiron's voice goes up slightly. He is genuinely interested to see what road that leads down.]

And if not, you're deprived of occasion to have fun at my expense. I suppose everyone wins regardless of outcome.

Whoever draws it becomes king. Of course, they have to be worthy of it first. That's why King Arthur was the only one who could fulfill the prophecy.

But I can, too. I just need the same chance. And... I'm going to be an even better king than he was.

[This does explain a number of conversations, especially the one in Mordred's dream. It is also painfully clear that this is a matter to never antagonize Mordred about in any way, shape, or form.]

...I see. And that certainly explains your opinions on the matter of fate.

Exactly. So I don't give a damn about any other prophecy. The most they can do is confirm what I already know.

But fools can make what they like of them. That isn't my problem.

[Mordred's a ball of anger, it doesn't take wisdom to know not to poke the anger ball.]

If you'd believe in something just because some witch or oracle said it, then yes. That would be foolish.

The sword of selection's power was proven by my father. Only something like that is worthwhile, not the mutterings of some hag or a toy.

Mmm. [There's a bit of a compulsion to defend the Oracle of Delphi from being lumped in under the heading of the hag, but she can do that in her own time and Grail War.]

Well, if the toy provides you entertainment at my expense, then it at least has some value outside of the oracular.
