FROM: @WEHFRIED || TO: @ALL (backdated like hell, aka before spiderland)

Before Gallipoli, it was discussed that we should come up with aliases to call each other, and have backstories to speak of while there was downtime in the war. At the time, we knew the Regency was there, but they wouldn't be so visible. It was enough to not be asked too much by the natives of the time, and allowed us the conditions we needed to blend in as a unit of reinforcements that was beached at the wrong location.

The situation may be different here, but I'd suggest we come up with different aliases from before, considering we'll be facing the Regency out in the open. Using your actual name isn't suggested- it could cause problems and endanger the rest of this cell if you do so. Try to pick something you'll remember easily enough.

Feel free to suggest names and ideas for yourselves, or help others. The BCE has a list of them you can pick from. The sooner we can compile a list, the easier it will make it for all of us to recall while in the middle of the mission.

[Boy, talking like this is a reminder of speaking with soldiers before battles. That was a long time ago, and he's getting back into the hang of it. Also, guess who's bad at suggesting names? THIS GUY. Thankfully, the BCE has a posh name generator that can be found here.]

The second. I'm not from either of those places, so these names are foreign to me as well.

Do you need help creating your own alias, then? I can't promise to be good at it - but I know someone who is very good at it.

you know "someone"?? what's with that

nah i can just stick some complicated kanji together and make a rich sounding name
花見ら 皇后寂 seems pretty pretentious
separately the kanji mean "flower viewing" and "empress + elegant simplicity" but you read the whole thing as hanamira kougousabi
she's a stuck-up bitch lol

He's an intelligence officer.

[ pause ]

A spy, among other things. I'm having him help me with my own alias, but I think I prefer what you're doing. The characters you write with, how pretentious a surname can you make with it? "Hanamira" is the surname? You write your names "last", then "first"?

[ FINALLY ]
jailbirds: (i don't care what you think anyway)

[personal profile] jailbirds 2018-04-18 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
nah i had it in western order, since most people here seem to be western
kougousabi would be the surname
but usually for japanese it'd be surname then given name, yeah
how pretentious..... hmm, even something short like 金滝 ≪kanataki≫ is "a waterfall of gold" in characters
but using more characters feels pretty blue blood too, especially if they're grand
like i said to @cruella, i wouldn't even talk to a guy named 天皇・竜ヶ峰 ≪tennou ryuugamine≫
"emperor" + "peak of dragon mountain" ?? lol so stuck-up

so what kind of names is your spy friend coming up with

I also write my name in a non-western order then. Surname or faction, and then given name. It explains my struggle with finding an alias from the database. Thank you, I couldn't put it into words.

I like it. A Waterfall of Gold. What is "kana" in that? Just "kana", does it mean anything in particular? I'm fond of keeping my initials, if possible. Due to my rank among the Araneans, I don't think it'll be wise to have too elaborate a name... but, it would be fun. A good surprise, to give them. Jedao has told me to take the name of an old, deceased squadmate of mine. Chriferafa.

金 "kana" by itself is the kanji for gold but you can read it as "kin" too
the "kana" reading is like
お金 "okane" = money
a lot of kanji have different readings in different words

chriferafa, hooooly shit that's a mouthful
be funny to see these spider bastards trying to pronounce it though
it seems like they don't really have vowels and soft sounds

Does "kin" have a particular meaning? I feel odd, investing so much into the meaning of a name. I've been told it will lend itself to the persona we're to adopt, though. That, and you're the first person I've really been able to speak with who's name is organized like mine.

[ she's been called "kel" a few times, like it's her given name. no fault of theirs. ]

Kana Chriferafa. It keeps my initials, but divorces me from danger. Chrif was always teased, for her name being too difficult to say aloud. I think it appropriate to commit microaggressions against our hosts, by way of our names. It's harmless, but satisfying for some.

[personal profile] jailbirds 2018-04-19 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
nah, kin and kana are both gold in different situations
oh yeah?? i've found a couple of other japanese here but we really are outnumbered
do you use honorifics too or just western titles like "miss" and "mr"

lololol yeah it's gonna be great v(*’-^*)b
especially if they consider you some kind of lowly trash

Neither "Miss" nor "Mister". I go by "General", but it hasn't much place here outside of announcing myself. "Cheris" will do just fine.

As for the Araneans and their considerationso: I've been informed that they find me a "hybrid". Tainted. Hopefully they find me as repulsive as I've read that they will -- I might be the safest of all of you, barring a full fight.
jailbirds: (so go on back to your own kind)

[personal profile] jailbirds 2018-04-20 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
kinda weird in my culture to call someone by just their first name
but i'm not really a -san person lol
probably just going to call you kel

oh i'm 100% safe
top of the food chain and i actually know what the fuck i'm doing

[personal profile] bivariant 2018-04-24 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Kel" is not a surname, it denotes factional belonging. You could always say "fuck convention", especially now that we're in a hierarchical food chain -- where you owe me no respect.

Be a little cautious. You're not as safe as you may hope, as your rank means that you are the most tantalizing target for any Aranean who wishes to test her mettle. I'd hate for something to happen to you.

[personal profile] jailbirds 2018-04-25 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
what, just "cheris" ?
don't think even i've ever called someone older than me by their first name lolol
i don't really have a problem with it tho

[ also the fact that she used Minatsuki's speech patterns to make her argument is definitely endearing. ]

awwww how sweet of you
but i mean it
i'm nothing but a liar by nature after all
i'll fit in there just fine

Just "Cheris", until we're among the Araneans.

[ girl she's military she'll cuss her head off when she's verbal ]

Well, it's not in my nature to be indirect; I meant what I said. Take care, "little empress".
