>>@SGT | TO: @ALL.

For the curious, we have finally found the source of the coolant shortages.

You may have noticed a certain oddity with your dreams as of late, and a greater and greater difficulty in waking from them. I can confirm that you have regrettably-- and entirely accidentally-- stumbled into the dreams of your neighbors and comrades. To those whose privacy has been invaded: we ask for your understanding and kindness. This was the fault of no member of COST.

A trans-dimensional creature known as the Oneiroi, the Telpharan, or more commonly, shapers, have invaded our ship. Colonies of the creature are known to invade ships and BASE models, consuming coolant while distracting their enemies with dreams and visions. These creatures currently live in our walls.

[Attached is an image of a rather exasperated Commander Grothia, flanked by several DACTYL droids, standing before a hole ripped in the wall of BASE's many hallways. She holds a shaper up to the camera, while several DACTYL droids chase more of the creatures escaping out of the walls behind her.]

I have been studying the creatures, and reading up on what histories and zoological studies have been written about them. Debate rages over their sentience-- some believe them to be pests. Others think them intelligent, sentient, sapient creatures who, while incapable of spoken language, communicate nonetheless through the language of dreaming. It is believed by some that the choices they make, of whose dreams to invade, whose to link, and how those connections are made, are an attempt to welcome other sentient creatures into their colonies, to make connections and be understood.

Debate has also continued amongst your command on how to best handle these creatures. Because their intelligence and self awareness is currently unknown, debated even now in scientific communities across the multiverse, we are ourselves unsure how to best deal with this problem. We leave it up to you.

In two days time, I shall put up a poll on the BCE network, and I encourage all to vote in favor of how these creatures should be dealt with: eradication, or (as my comrade has termed it) catch-and-release. Both posit their own risks: the possibility of a mass slaughter of sentient lifeforms, or the possibility of a resurgence of this infection. For myself, I shall not argue with the results, or argue either side. It is your choice to make, my poor fellow-soldiers.

For now: I ask you to consider the matter carefully. You may, of course, ask me any questions you like. I encourage you to debate this matter as thuroughly as you are able.

And in two days' time, I urge you: vote.

[ooc Yep, let's talk about the shaper infection. Characters can ICly debate here (threadjacking encouraged!); there will be an IC vote on the 19th, with results on the 21st. Ask any OOC questions you might have over here.]

HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA KEEP THAT THING ALIVE WHEN WE'RE ON MISSIONS?

it's not staying in my capsule so i'm not sure. i'll probably ask the commander. cross that bridge.

want to see it?

Dude as long as it doesn't start critiquing my moves and giving me performance anxiety hell yea

[The sci-fi future equivalent of "hey I caught this beetle, wanna come over?

Ryuji's already dragging his ass out of bed.]

Be right there!

[That's all it takes for Ryuji to mosey along right out of his capsule and into the hallway. You'd think they'd give a map out of who lives where, but that's beside the point. It ain't Leblanc, but it'll do- it'll have to do, since there are so many nights of hanging out that they've already missed since joining up with COST.

Capsule 14, he peers into the camera at the door and puts his face right up to it- fisheyed lens and all- before leaning to the window and knocking on it.]

[was just about to leave the capsule anyway, the door opening as soon as ryuji knocks... and akira stares, dumbfounded.

before pushing at ryuji's shoulders, away from the capsule as it closes behind them.]

I am not letting you go in there. [SORRY.....]

[... what?

CURIOSITY INTENSIFIES.]

What the hell, dude?

[He tries to peer into the capsule at least once as the thing starts to whoosh its sci-fi ass closed.]

Wh... what's going on in there. [Flat-toned, even as Akira is pushing him backwards.]

Rider's an idiot, Noctis is an idiot, and that's exactly why if you walk in there you'll be put into a sleeping coma. Not happening.

I think I counted about twenty... [rUBS TEMPLE]

[Rider's an idiot.

Check, he nods.

Noctis is an idiot.

Check, another nod. This isn't exactly news to Ryuji, but... oh... oh no, what did they do?]

Were they trying to kill you?

No, Rider collected more shapers. I guess Noctis was cool with that because his brain doesn't exist.

Let's go eat. [sPINS RYUJI AROUND]

[Doesn't offer up any resistance to being derailed at this point. He's convinced of their combined stupidity, which is nice, considering usually he's the idiot.]

How the hell are you supposed to sleep, then?

[That poor, poor capsule.]

They can figure that out.

[he'll have to tell the sergeant... but he should wait until after the poll.]

Try not to do something like that, okay?
ryuji: (069)

[personal profile] ryuji 2017-12-31 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He crosses his arms for a moment, still walking, taking dubiously long strides, so that he can get in front of Akira and walk backwards a bit and talk to him. There's a certain defiant smirk on his features, like he feels he's got a control of the flow of the things, and he jests---]

Yanno.

That sort of level of stupid is usually my gig. Think I'm finally rubbin' off on ya?
masque: ▌masque. (‣ my pearl)

[personal profile] masque 2017-12-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, why would that happen? [DRY...

well, great, for some reason ryuji's ego is stroked. ann wasn't kidding, it seriously doesn't take much.]

This place has made you pretty self aware. Your level of stupid?
ryuji: (263)

[personal profile] ryuji 2018-01-02 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Caaauuuse... I dunno.

I mean, I am in your dreams and all.

[And when he does, Ryuji is practically soaring high in the sky with complacency. Seriously, this kid is so easy to please. But did Ann really need to tell Akira that?

That traitor]

Yeah, have you seen me in the options menu? It's like... Intelligence ranked at a negative 10.
